F. The Five Crowns in the Bible

1. The incorruptible crown (1 Corinthians 9:24-25)

a. The crowns are nonperishable, incorruptible, and will never rust or decay b. This crown is given for running and completing your race on earth (Heb. 12:1-2) c. When running you must lay aside the weights and the sins weighing you down (Heb. 12:1) d. A good soldier will not entangle himself with the affairs of this life (2 Tim. 2:4)

2. The crown of rejoicing (1 Thessalonians 2:19-20)

a. This is often called a soul winners crown as souls winners rejoice at a sinner being saved

3. Crown of life (James 1:12)

a. This crown is given to the overcomer – the crown of Rev. 2:10 b. Those who die martyred will receive a special crown (Rev. 2:10) c. Those suffering severe persecution and remaining faithful will receive a crown of life

4. Crown of glory (1 Peter 5:4)

a. 1 Pet. 5:4 was addressed to ministers and pastors b. Those ministers found faithful to their flock and ministry receive a special crown

5. Crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8)

a. Those who believe in and love the appearing of the Lord will receive this crown b. Those who live righteous on earth will receive this crown

G. A summary of the five crowns

- For winning souls to Christ - For overcoming temptation

H. The other crowns in Revelation

 Twenty-four elders with crowns of gold on their heads (Rev. 4:4)  Christ has a gold crown reaping the harvest (Rev. 14:14)  Christ has on His head many crowns (Rev. 19:12)  Believers are promised crowns (1 Cor. 9:24-25)
