1. He is a fallen angel named in Greek Apollyon and in Hebrew Abaddon (Rev. 9:11) 2. The name alludes to destruction or being a destroyer

Note: Some suggest these are modern weapons such as helicopters

THE SIXTH ANGEL SOUNDS HIS TRUMPET

Main Verses : Revelation 9:13-19

A. The four angels

1. They could be the four prince spirits over the past four empires of prophecy 2. Two prince spirits of Satan’s kingdom are mentioned in Daniel 10 (Greece and Persia) 3. The antichrist will be like a leopard, with feet like a bear and a lion mouth (Rev. 13:2) 4. They kill for 1 year, 1 day, 1 month, and 1 hour

B. The huge army

1. They come from the east across the Euphrates River and are 200 million strong 2. They could be from India, China , or an Islamic army from Iran to south Russia 3. They may be headed for the oil wells in the Muslim Gulf nations (West of Euphrates)

C. The army on horseback

1. Ezekiel saw an army on horseback (Ez. 38 and 39) 2. Joel saw an army on horses (Joel 2:4) 3. John saw an army on horses (Rev. 9:16)

Note: The asteroids could destroy the electric power and men use horses for transportation

D. Drying up of the Euphrates

1. The Euphrates runs between Iraq and Iran and joins the Tigris at Bozrah 2. The river can be dried today because of five dams in Turkey that can be shut off 3. The future famine could also dry the Euphrates River in the tribulation

E. The death of one third of mankind

1. One third are killed, some by the fire from the army (Rev. 9:18) 2. Others are killed by the smoke from the army (Rev. 9:18) 3. Others are killed by the brimstone from the army (Rev. 9:18)

Note: Men will not repent of their idolatry, murder, sorceries, fornication, or thefts (Rev.9:20-21) Conclusion: The next chapter introduces a transition!
