Spirit of Leadership
THE SPIRIT OF LEADERSHIP process. He emphasized the following statements to his lead ership trainees: For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man “unclean.” For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man “unclean”; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him “unclean.” The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. In these simple statements, the principle of the heart and its power to control all of one’s life is evident. According to Jesus, all our actions are motivated by the content of our hearts or what is stored in our subconscious minds. Have you noticed that people’s true attitudes and beliefs are often manifested when they are under pressure? They are reveal ing what is in their hearts. Here are some examples of the use of the word heart in the Bible and how it corresponds to our subconscious minds. The Hebrew word translated heart is leb, which means “the feelings, the will, and even the intellect” or the “inner man.” 24 Just before sending the deluge that destroyed all of human ity except Noah and his family, the Creator said of man that “every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil.”
