The Biblical political model fo r government was based on city states rather that “states”. Ancient cities had walls around 6 them and a gate controlling entry and exit. To enter the city, you had to be a STATUTORY “citizen”, “resident”, or 7 “member” of the city, and swear allegiance to t he ruler. 8

Blessed are those who do [OBEY] His commandments [LAWS], that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city . But outside [the city and its protection] are dogs and sorcerers

[Rev. 22:14-15, Bible, NKJV]

12

The only way to avoid committing idolatry is to ensure that God is the King of the city you want to be a member of. The 13 Bible book of Nehemiah describes how such a city can be and was built. It describes the rebuilding of the wall around 14 Jerusalem and the restoration of God as the King of the Israelites. To do this, all the people in the new city had to: 15

1.

Study God’s law.

16

Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the L ORD had commanded Israel. So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month. Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and

22

So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, andMeshullam. And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. And

26

Ezra blessed the L ORD , the great God.

27

Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and

worshiped the L ORD with theirfaces to the ground.

2. Restore the authority of God’s law by SEPARATING themselves from everyone OUTSIDE, meaning the “foreigners”, 31 “strangers”, and “nonresidents” and confessing their sins. Being SEPARATE and being “sanctified” are equivalent in 32 t he context of the Bible. “Sanctified” means “set aside for a purpose”, and that purpose of God’s purpose and 33 obedience to Him and His divine law. 34

The People Confess Their Sins

35

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth, and with dust on their heads. Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one – fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and

The basis for our ministry is, in fact, the rebuilding of this wall of separation between church, which is believers as 42 individual humans, and the secular pagan state, which is the heathens around us. See the following discussion about 43 Nehemiah in: 44

The Heaven we enter after the final judgment called “The New Jerusalem” is described as such a great city. You can’t 45 enter this walled city without allegiance to its King, who is Jesus, and without obedience to the laws that make it a safe and 46
