Prepare-for-War
So, I went back to the Lord again, this time asking Him to show me exactly what these "treasures in heaven" were. His answer came after several weeks of seeking and search ing the scriptures. The greatest treasure we can ever have is a personal one-on-one knowledge of God Himself/ A.W. Tozer summed it up as follows:
"There is today no lack of Bible teachers to set forth correctly the principles of the doctrines of Christ, but too many of these seem satisfied to teach the funda mentals of the faith year after year, strangely unaware that there is in their ministry no manifest Presence, nor anything unusual in their personal lives ... Sound Bible exposition is an imperative must in the Church of the Living God. [However] it is not mere words that nourish the soul, but God Himself, and unless and until the hearers find God in personal experience they are not the better for having heard the truth. The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts." (The Pursuit of God, by A.W. Tozer, Christian Publications, Inc., Camp Hill, PA, pp. 9-10.)
What is this "manifest Presence" and "intimate knowledge of God" that Tozer makes reference to? It is none other than a personal knowing of God that can be obtained only by having God talk to you as an individual and revealing Himself directly to you as only He can do. Let us look at what scripture has to say about this.
"[Jesus said] For I say unto you, among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." Luke 7:28.
Jesus was saying here that those of us who have the privi lege of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us are greater than John the Baptist, and John the Baptist was the greatest of all the Old Testament prophets. Now wliat was remarkable about these Old Testament prophets? Their personal relationships
