Prepare-for-War
Cindy and Don on more than one occasion. One evening Cindy called me, terribly upset. She told me that Don had been drinking and was in a suicidal rage. She wanted to bring him over to our house - I told her she could. That was one of the rare evenings I had free and Elaine and I were simply sitting enjoying some praise music and doing some needle work. Cindy and Don arrived in a few minutes and Don immediately started shouting and pacing the floor in a very agitated manner. The Lord told me to just be still and let Him handle the situation, so I did. Cindy came over to me after a few minutes and said, "Aren't you going to pray or say something to Don?" "No, I have already asked the Lord what to do, and He told me to just be silent and Jet Him handle the situation. So come and sit here with me and listen to the music." Don paced the floor for over an hour. Then, suddenly, he sat down in a chair and asked me for a cup of coffee. I im mediately got up and went into the kitchen and fixed one for him. Then we all sat in silence another hour. Finally, Don looked up at us rather sheepishly and said, "I know that I have been in sin and that what I really need is the Lord. Would you girls be willing to pray with me and help me find the Lord?" The Holy Spirit showed me so powerfully through that inci dent how important it is that we simply be obedient, willing vessels walking in close fellowship with Him. As we do this, He is then free to flow through and around us. When all is said and done, only the Holy Spirit can convict of sin and the need of a Savior. Only the Holy Spirit knows what is in each heart and what is really needed in each situation. Since that time I have more and more frequently had the privilege of just sitting back and allowing the Holy Spirit to take care of the person or situation in which I find myself.
