Plucking the Eagle's Wings
Plucking the Eagle's Wings
were only part of the problem. The governor, Sir William Berkeley, had a monopoly on the fur trade. One hundred years later, these same Navigational Acts resurfaced at the start of the American Revolution. Toward the end of 1675, the Indians began raiding plantations in Virginia. While Berkeley made a half-hearted attempt to stop the attacks, the colonists formed an army making Nathaniel Bacon its leader. Bacon defeated the Indians twice and occupied Jamestown, the capital of the colony. Governor Berkeley felt that Bacon rebelled against the English Crown and marched against him. Bacon burned Jamestown in 1676. The following month, he stood near Yorktown and met Berkeley's soldiers. One month later, Bacon died of malaria, thus ending the rebellion. One hundred years later, another rebellion would change the destiny of America. The Prophetic Significance of the Indian Wars Some historians think that Bacon's Rebellion was the forerunner of the American Revolution. This war and King Phillip's War are interesting for several reasons. First of all, there is a 100-year cycle. One war started in 1675 and lasted into 1676. One hundred years later, the American Revolution began in 1775 and American Independence was declared in 1776. Secondly, both wars taught the settlers how to fight like the Indians. The British wore heavy clothing and stood in formation in an open field. The Indians wore light clothes and hid to ambush the enemy. These Indian tactics helped the Americans win the Revolutionary War. Thirdly, King Phillip's War was fought in Puritan New England. It was there that the American Revolution began. Bacon's rebellion was fought in Virginia and actually ended in Yorktown. One hundred years later, the American Revolution ended in the same spot. These cycles and patterns are more than just a coincidence. A close study of the American Revolution continues to reveal the Israel-American connection with its profound Hebraic patterns and parallels.
