that is higher than I" (Psalms 61:2). America has lost its spiritual direction as secular Humanism, New Age spiritualism, evolution, and materialism have replaced faith in God. Today, as a nation, we are divided and walking around in circles in the wilderness. Only when we set our eyes back on the rock of our salvation will we be infused with the strength to remove the "weights and sins that so easily beset us" (Hebrews 12:1). 3. We must learn to weep again. When the eagle goes through the molting period, its eyes become dry and it is unable to cry. When an eagle flies, there is a covering over its eyes to keep them moist. Bobby Thompson observed that once the eagle settled upon the rocks, the water flowed from its eyes and down across its beak. The eyes of many American hearts have become dry and unable to see the critical needs of those around them. Movies are filled with cursing, crime, rape, and immorality. When a person is murdered, raped, or wounded in the community, many no longer weep over these crimes against humanity. Their hearts are hardened and their spirits are cold. The media, whether intentionally or not, has fostered a cynical, skeptical society with calloused hearts. We must learn to bear one another's burdens and weep with them that weep. This will again occur when we return to the rock of our salvation. Weeping is not difficult when our hearts are filled with compassion. Political renewal is merely a temporary bandage placed over a mortal wound. The eagle must experience spiritual renewal and reverse wrong thinking and attitudes of self-destruction. Spiritual renewal begins with the heart and works its way throughout the body. We must pray for leaders in the pulpit, in the White House, and on the local level who will stand for righteousness and for these principles: • There is one eternal God who created all men equal. • The Holy Bible is the foundation of our nation and it should be taught to our children. • Prayer is communication with God. Students should be allowed to pray either before or after school as long as they do not force their will upon others. • There should never be any restraint on freedom to preach the
