Plucking the Eagle's Wings
The Eagle in Bible Prophecy
experienced much darkness itself, though not because of a faulty heritage. Rather, it is because liberal-minded men and women diminish, or deny altogether, our Christian heritage. They deny that the fundamentals upon which this nation was built were based on Biblical principles. In doing so, they deny the Creator and His Son, Jesus Christ! In the name of separation of church and state, the government has seemingly become the adversary of the Gospel rather than the protector of the right to express it. The Ten Commandments have been essentially censored from our public schools because, heaven-forbid, they might corrupt the students! So we live with the legacy of school violence and declining moral and intellectual standards. Scripture states that, "A house divided against itself cannot stand" (Matthew 12:25). America is divided today. Until the 1960s, most American public policy reflected an understanding of, and respect for, America's Judeo-Christian values and how they influenced our laws. Today politicians use the term "American" values, lest unbelievers and non-Christians be offended. America is divided between extreme liberal and conservative viewpoints. Liberal values are based on the idea that the concepts of right and wrong are opinions. This is in contrast to the Judeo-Christian belief that God defined right and wrong in the Bible. Those who are not learning Biblical values in church and at home believe that anything goes! Values are handled almost like a smorgasbord of ideas, and this approach sways people without a clear value system. Proverbs 12:15 gives solemn counsel about doing this: "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise." And the counselor of Proverbs is no psychic network employee! It's no wonder that expediency has replaced character. If the inspired words of the Hebrew prophets offend people today, they must be censored in the name of political correctness. Where is the American Civil Liberties Union when this censorship flies in the face of the First Amendment? People who believe in Christ and respect the Bible as God's inspired Word are labeled religious fanatics and the religious right. This is deliberately done to cast doubt on their beliefsābeliefs that they have the freedom to express as Americans. Labeling is done skillfully and intentionally. For example, people who want to protect the rights of the unborn are called anti-abortion activists, which sounds so insidious as compared to the term pro-choice. Good has become evil, and evil has been artfully portrayed as good. 7
