If citizens of world democracies neglect to prayerfully vote for their leaders, they could end up with rulers who are influenced by dark spirits! Daniel 10 indicates that wicked spirits can actually wage war in the heavens to affect events taking place in the nations. Daniel's account gives an example of how it works. He entered a season of prayer and fasting that lasted for three weeks (Daniel 10:2). God answered his prayer, but its fulfillment was actually detained by unseen forces. The wicked spirit that hindered Daniel's answer to prayer had a name, the prince of Persia (Daniel 10:13). The spiritual warfare was very intense because Daniel's prayer concerned Israel's deliverance from seventy years of Babylonian captivity. When the Medes and the Persians overthrew Babylon, Israel would be freed (Daniel 5:30-31). Since God loves the Jews and Satan hates them, the spirits of darkness targeted this battle and attempted to prevent Israel's liberation. It took persistent prayer and fasting to bring forth Michael the archangel and his angelic forces to thwart the prince of Persia's opposition! Daniel 10 indicates that nations actually have specific ruling wicked spirits that influence their leaders. At high levels of government, the enemy can inflict great damage upon a nation. Men like Marx, Stalin, and Hitler effectively tapped into spiritual powers of darkness for their empowerment. The death, destruction, and hatred that resulted from their regimes points to the source of their powers. I have written this to explain how spiritual forces can influence America in high places. The true enemy of our souls is unseen. One example of how unseen forces impact America negatively is the abuse of our national airwaves. Programs delivered into our homes suggest that sex out of marriage is okay, yet Hollywood producers neglect to show the devastation of broken homes, sexually transmitted diseases, and physical abuse caused by immorality. Shows mock Christians and their values, suggesting that wholesomeness and character is out of date. Shows promote alternative lifestyles but fail to mention what God has to say about them. This battle being raged over the airwaves is being empowered in high places, because it has eternal consequences.
