never contradict Scripture. I believe that the Holy Spirit actively speaks today, just as in the past, through believers who pray and fast often. The following accounts illustrate how specific prophetic utterances, dreams, and visions have impacted the destinies of American presidents. Stories of American Presidents Revisionists, those who attempt to rewrite history from their perspective, often intentionally omit events relative to God and the Bible. Generally, one should read the most original source of historical information in order to get the most accurate understanding of history. Louis Bauman wrote a generally unknown version of Lincoln's assassination. Here is the account: "On the evening of April 14, 1865, a bullet was fired into the brain of America's most beloved President, Abraham Lincoln. The nation was tremendously shocked and aroused to a frenzy. A great mob took possession of the streets of New York. The New York World, as a newspaper, had been unfriendly and critical of Lincoln. Suddenly a shout went up from the mob: 'To the World!' Instantly, the maddened people became an uncontrollable horde, surging toward The World building. Just then a strong man mounted some elevation and waved a small flag in an endeavor to still the people. Seeing him, several voices shouted, 'Another telegram from Washington!' Everybody stopped, of course, to listen to the telegram. Then that strong young man lifted his eyes reverently to heaven and in clear, deep, strong tones, said, 'Fellow citizens! Clouds and darkness are round about Him! In His pavilion are dark waters and thick clouds of the skies! Justice and judgment are the habitation of His throne! Mercy and truth shall go before His face! Fellow citizens! God reigns and the government at Washington still lives!'" (Source: Russian Events in Bible Prophecy , Louis Bauman, 1942) Someone present at the scene wrote, "The crowd stood rigidly on the ground with awe, gazing at the motionless orator and thinking of God and the security of the government in that hour. The tumult subsided. A mighty voice, speaking a message from the Word of God, stilled a mighty passion. James A.
