Plucking the Eagle's Wings

The Eagle in Bible Prophecy

The Founders understood the Divine source of our liberties and the role of civil government as protector, not author, of those freedoms. Our Founding Fathers understood this to be the most appropriate and desirable way to pursue happiness! It is not the purpose of this book to define the personal faith of our Founding Fathers. However, I take exception to the attempt of revisionists to write God out of American history, thus causing an erroneous interpretation of the Founders' intent. The impact of deism on the Founders has been distorted. Deists did not believe in organized religion, the divinity of Christ, or the relevancy of the Bible. However, even they asserted that nature itself demonstrates the existence of God (Source: Webster's Encyclopedia, 1941). Thomas Jefferson, the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, believed in the existence of a Supreme Being who was the creator and sustainer of the universe. Jefferson supposedly rejected Christ's divinity. Interestingly, he wrote to William Short on October 31, 1819, that he was convinced that the fragmentary teaching of Jesus constituted the "outlines of a system of the most sublime morality which has ever fallen from the lips of man." Said to be a Unitarian, Jefferson wrote to Ezra Stiles on June 25, 1819, "I am of a sect by myself, as far as I know" (Source: Monticello Research Department, Rebecca Bowman, August 1997). Although there is evidence that some of the Founders rejected organized religion and the relevancy of the Bible, they were not the majority. I encourage you to also read the original documents of the Founders to collect all of the facts. Don't be deprived of knowing America's complete heritage by believing only the revisionists' reports. To interest you in the facts we never see in public school history books, let's read the actual words of some of our Founders concerning Christ. Special recognition here is due to author David Barton for his scholarly research and faithful service to American history. Then we will move on with our prophetic study. Founders' Own Words from Their Last Will and Testaments

"First of all, I ... rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ for a pardon of all my sins." Samuel Adams, signer of the Declaration
