Hebrew Parallels with the Civil War and Israel's Divided Kingdom
"Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falleth." (Luke 11:17) Yet another interesting parallel is uncovered when we compare the division of Israel into two kingdoms with the American Civil War. When God brought the Hebrews out of Egyptian bondage, there were 600,000 men in the nation (Exodus 12:37). Upon adding the wives and children, most scholars estimate the total Hebrew population at the time of the exodus to be about 3,000,000. When the Constitution was signed, the American Population was about 3,000,000 (Source: Lee's Brief History of the United States, Susan Lee, 1896). Author Susan Lee wrote, "There were about 500,000 slaves who were found in all colonies, though much more south of the Potomac." When the Hebrews left Egypt, among them was a "mixed multitude"
