T HE SECRET TO answered prayer is a great mystery. After family members pray intently for someone who is sick to be healed, and that person passes away, believing family members often ask why. “Why didn’t God answer our prayers?” “What did we do wrong?” “Is there something in my life that prevented it from coming to pass?” “Is there some hidden sin, and is God angry with me?” In this chapter I am going to attempt to tackle the greatest enigma that most Christians experiences at some point in their lives—the matter of unanswered prayer. P RAYER F ROM THE H EBRAIC P ERSPECTIVE In the Old Testament, the word pray is found in the English translation 245 times. The word prayer is identified in 83 references, and the past tense form, prayed , is found 31 times.
