high and then dropping you low! The Holy Spirit uses the five gates of the human temple, or five senses, to help us discern good from evil and to experience the presence of the Lord in our lives. All spiritual blessings originate and are activated within the eternal spirit of a man. However, the Lord uses the natural to reflect the spiritual. The results of experiencing His visitation impacts your mind and spirit, bringing “righteousness and peace and joy … ” (Rom. 14:17). The five human senses are five gates leading into the innermost part of your spiritual man, the holy of holies of your physical temple (1 Cor. 3:16). Just as temple priests were watchmen for the gates of the temple, the Holy Spirit is the watchman for every gate and entrance through your physical senses. Because the mind tends to operate more from the carnal and fleshly senses, allowing fear, unbelief, doubt, and skepticism toward spiritual things to build a mental wall between your prayer and your faith, it is important for a believer to learn to cast down any mental picture (imaginations) that would exalt itself against the spiritual knowledge gained through the inspiration and illumination of the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 10:5). In Paul’s words, we must, “Cast down imaginations” ( KJV ). The phrase “casting down” means, “to violently lower something to the point of demolishing it.” It is an aggressive word that indicates a person is taking charge of his or her thought life and seizing any invading opponent that would disrupt the
