word was His promise. His word cannot be altered, neither can He lie. This is why Jesus could sleep and the disciples could not. In fact, the Gospel writer says it this way: “They considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened” (Mark 6:52, KJV ). How could they forget such an amazing miracle in such a short time? It is not that difficult. We do it all of the time. Folks will sit in a church service, hear an anointed message, and walk out the door saying, “That’s it! That word is for me!” They drive home meditating on the Word. But when they open the door at home, perhaps an unsaved loved one begins cursing them for being late coming home. Or that afternoon the dog gets run over, and the youngest child falls down the step and breaks his wrist. Suddenly the Word is choked out with the “cares of this world” (Mark 4:19). The truth is choked by the thorns of circumstances. Circumstances cause us to forget the promises of God. The disciples forgot eight simple words: “Let us go over to the other side.” Jesus knew that when He said “Let us go over unto the other side” (Luke 8:22, KJV ), US meant ALL of the disciples! W HEN W E F ORGET THE P ROMISES Three main problems arise when we forget the promises in God’s Word. These three problems can birth mistakes that we must live with the rest of our lives.
