The Greek word for “two-edged” is distomos , a word used of rivers and roads that branch. It literally means, “two-mouthed.” This can be interpreted as a sword with two blades, one on either side. Consider this: When God spoke the Word out of His mouth and revealed it to the prophets to pen in the Scriptures, the sword— God’s Word—became sharp on one side of the blade. However, it only becomes sharp on the other side of the blade—double-edged—when you speak the Word of God out of your mouth!
