W HAT F AVOR I S N OT It is just as important to understand what favor is not as it is to understand what favor is. Favor does not involve good looks or physical attraction. Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah and said, “There is no beauty that we should desire Him” (Isa. 53:2). If the image on the Shroud of Turin is the image of Jesus, then He was not a naturally handsome man in His facial features. He had a very strong, manly appearance, but His physical beauty was not central to His attraction. God’s anointing was His attraction! Your physical beauty, form, or appearance do not determine your level of favor with God. Favor is not charisma or a polished personality. If a person is involved in sales, it never hurts to dress well, use good grammar, and take additional classes to “brush up” on the latest techniques. Yet the favor of God can do more in one hour than four years of secular training. In the secular world, individuals use their charm or personality to persuade people. While God can use your personality as a plus , real favor does not involve either. Favor is a supernatural action from God that enables Him to receive the glory when He works on your behalf.
