Concerning the calendar, Israel’s feast cycles are based upon a Jewish lunar calendar and not a solar calendar. The global solar calendar is based upon a year being 365.25 days per year. On a lunarbased calendar, the original calendar believed to have been used prior to the seventh century b.c., there were twelve months of 30 days each month. However, the lunar/solar calendar is based upon 354 days per year. The cycles of the moon play an important part in the Jewish seasons. The Hebrew word for “month” is chodesh , and at times it is also translated a s moon (1 Sam. 20:5, 18, 24). The moon renews itself every 29 to 30 days. It moves from dark to bright in 14 to 15 days, then from bright to waxing dark in 14 to 15 days. The names of the Jewish months are as follows : • Nisan (Aviv) • Iyar • Sivan • Tammuz • Av • Elul • Tishri • Cheshvan
