with his grandchildren. While Scripture does not use the term “guardian angel,” we often speak of personal angels assigned to individuals as guardian angels. This personal angel concept is revealed in Acts 12. Peter had been arrested and was under a death threat. The believers gathered in a house to pray for Peter’s release. An angel of the Lord entered the prison, released Peter from his chains, and led him out of the iron gate of the city. Peter arrived at the home prayer meeting and knocked on the door asking to be let in. Those faith-filled prayer warriors did not believe it was Peter!

And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate. But they said to her, “You are beside yourself!” Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, “It is his angel.” —A CTS 12:13–15

Those praying told Rhoda it was “Peter’s angel.” The believers understood the fact that this great apostle had a personal angel that was assigned to him. It is rather humorous that the church was praying and believing that God would release Peter, and yet when he was released,
