CHAPTER 12

Releasing the Angel of Blessing The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, Bless the lads; Let my name be named upon them, And the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. —G ENESIS 48:16

J ACOB WAS THE son of Isaac, who was the covenant son of Abraham. In the setting of the above Scripture, Jacob and his sons had journeyed to Egypt during a time of global famine and were fed and preserved by the wisdom of Jacob’s son Joseph, the second in command over Egypt (Gen. 41:43–44). Jacob had been unaware that Joseph had fathered two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, and the old patriarch Jacob, in Genesis 48, was now blessing his two grandsons, adopting them into the Hebrew family. Jacob requested to God that the same angel who redeemed him from “evil” go with his two grandsons and make them great in the earth (Gen. 48:16).
