to reason away miracles and words of Christ. This was evident as a pattern, as we can see by the Pharisees continually criticizing the miracles of Christ (Mark 11:31– 33). We can pray and believe for simple things and believe the Lord will perform the work, such as: “Lord, bless this day,” “Go with my children,” “Give me strength,” “Bring me peace,” and so forth. However, when a major accident has occurred, or a sudden disease strikes, or a disaster hits a family, it is as a believer begins to pray for a supernatural intervention that the negative circumstances appear greater than the words they are praying. At that point praying in the Spirit allows the words to come straight out of your spirit and go directly to the Lord. Your mind does not know what is being spoken, and thus the Lord is able to block your mental reasoning from interfering with your prayer. This is usually the method the Lord uses when a person is in deep intercession concerning a tragedy or is interceding to prevent a person from dying before his or her time. P RAYING E XCESSIVELY IN THE S PIRIT Year ago a terrible national disaster occurred in America. My father was greatly burdened and was praying much in the language of the Holy Spirit. He said, “Son, the Bible predicts that there will be dangerous times at the time of the end [2 Tim. 3:1], and believers must begin to pray excessively in the Spirit.” This type of praying in the Spirit is usually practiced when a
