live ten to twenty years longer than others. Others may experience a serious illness that begins to affect their bodies. When this occurs, what should we pray for? Should we pray for healing, for additional years to be added, for physical strength? Or should we just say, “Whatever You wish, Lord”? Because we don’t know what to pray for, we may be tempted to refrain from praying at all. Paul gives a solution to this challenge by telling us that the Spirit, “helps in our weaknesses” (v. 26). This indicates not only spiritual weaknesses but also weakness in every area of our lives, including physical infirmities and even moral struggles. The word helpeth ( KJV ) is from a Greek word meaning, “to take hold of together.” It can be used for someone who assists in carrying a burden. The will of a man is known to the mind of a man. The will of God is revealed by the mind of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us. When a person intercedes for another, it is a legal implication of someone standing in court defending a person. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us. T HREE T YPES OF P RAYER L ANGUAGE By Scripture and experience I have learned there are three types of prayer language given to those who have received the Spirit.
