There is another name for God, found in the Hebrew Bible when combining the Hebrew letters, yod, hei, vav, hei , or YHVH. In English the name is pronounced as Jehovah ; however, the Jewish rabbis are emphatic that this sacred name for God cannot and should not be pronounced, as the actual pronunciation has been lost in history. In English, the name God can represent any god from any religion. Should Christians quit praying and saying “Praise God” or “Glory to God” because the heathen also say god or use the word god to identify their deity? The answer is no, because the true God looks at the heart of the individual doing the worshiping and the petitions. Paul once saw a monument dedicated to the “unknown god,” and Paul used this ignorance to his advantage when telling the audience in Greece who this unknown god was —the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Acts 17:23–24). When a person argues that we cannot say the English transliteration of the name Jesus , then we must ask ourselves the following question: multiple millions of Christians prayed a sinner’s prayer asking Jesus into their hearts; are they all lost and deceived because they used the wrong name? When being baptized in water, some say in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19), and others baptize in Jesus’s name (Acts 2:38).
