dunamis and is the same word used in Acts 1:8, when Christ said we would receive “power [ dunamis ] when the Holy Spirit has come upon you [us].” This word is used in the New Testament in references to the miraculous power of God that operates to perform miracles (Mark 6:5; 9:39; Acts 2:22; 8:13). If the dunamis (power) of God is released through the prayer of faith and the laying on of hands (James 5:14–15), the same anointing can be transferred to a cloth that is prayed over by faith. When these prayer cloths were taken to the sick and possessed in Paul’s day, even the evil spirits departed from the possessed (Acts 19:12). P RAYING O VER T HINGS There are many people who love Christ, but their particular denomination does not accept the view that miracles can occur today. They would teach that these prayer cloths were “special miracles just for the apostle Paul,” and we should not attempt to copy this type of ministry in our contemporary time. However, what do these skeptical individuals do with the following verse?
