through the anointed cloths and Paul’s prayers, these individuals were healed, as demons departed and the sick were cured. How can this type of prayer—praying over a linen cloth —be effective? First, God watches not only our words but also our actions. James wrote: “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:20). The word works in Greek is ergon, which means “to toil or work” and, by implication, means “to act.” We would say, “Faith without corresponding action is dead.” When the men carrying a paralyzed man on a cot were prevented by the crowd from entering a house, they went up the side steps and tore the roof off, lowering the man into the center of the room where Christ was ministering. The Bible says that “Jesus saw their faith” and cured the man (Mark 2:2–12). They put action behind their believing! It required faith for a person to present an apron or handkerchief to be prayed over and faith for the person to present the prayer cloth to the suffering individual. Not only does God watch your actions, but also the anointing is the tangible presence of God and is transferable. When a believer prays for another by laying on of hands, the anointing is transferred to the person receiving prayer if that person has faith to believe. The woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Christ’s garment and was cured. Christ acknowledged that He felt “virtue” come out of Him and enter the woman’s body (Mark 5:30, KJV ).
