to write hundreds of psalms, many recorded in the Book of Psalms, and anointed him to play the harp with such an unction that evil spirits departed from tormented King Saul (v. 23). David’s anointing also made him invincible in battle and gave him the gifting of inquiring of the Lord and receiving divine instruction (1 Sam. 30:8). T HE F IRST T IME I F ELT THE A NOINTING My earliest memories of the precious anointing, when I actually felt the presence of God, goes back to the state of Virginia, when our denomination hosted an annual “camp meeting” under a large openair metal tabernacle. I was eleven years of age and recall watching Dr. T. L. Lowery praying for individuals in what we termed a prayer line , which was simply a long single line of men and women seeking individual prayer from Dr. Lowery, a highly anointed man of God. This night a man approached TL, walking with a cane and limping. One of his legs was damaged, and he was in pain. The man of God laid both hands upon the man’s head. Suddenly the fellow went backward on his back and then bounced up on both feet like a rubber ball! TL grabbed the cane from his hand and threw it in my direction! The fellow began shaking his injured leg, screaming, “I’m healed! I’m healed!” He began running at full speed across the platform. I never will forget that moment, as that was when I first felt the sacred unction, the anointing of God. I began to shake and felt like crying
