miraculous, I believe, is linked to their prayer life. If you were raised in a classical full gospel church , which would include any of the eight major Pentecostal denominations that were birthed from 1886 to 1932, then you remember that older saints were the prayer warriors in the church. As a child, when my dad pastored in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, it was common for the women and the men to have separate prayer rooms, and these very godly believers would often pray for one hour or more before services. After exiting the room to the small main sanctuary, the glory, presence, and peace of the Lord would come over the congregation. You felt the tangible presence of God. I remember that one of the effects of the divine presence was such JOY among the believers. Deep intercessory prayer always builds your confidence in God’s ability. T HE S PIRIT OF A D OCTRINE The question “Does God still perform miracles through prayer?” is still being asked today. One man said, “I don’t believe God does miracles today.” I replied, “Then you are not really saved, because the act of salvation is in itself a miracle!” My dear friend Pastor Paul Zink teaches that when a person judges doctrine, he or she must also judge the spirit of the doctrine .
