receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. Even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. —H EBREWS 7:8–10

Consider this: the tenth was presented to Melchizedek on behalf of Levi; however, Levi was to be born two generations later! First came Isaac, then Jacob, then Levi, one of Jacob’s twelve sons (Gen. 29:34). The tithe act of Abraham was actually impacting Abraham’s future seed, who would be assigned as ministers of the tabernacle and the Jewish temple. The spiritual principle is that the words, deeds, and actions stemming from obedience, and even disobedience, a man commits can impact future generations even when those generations are still in the loins of the father in the form of the male seed. One of the biblical warnings stated that the sins of the fathers were transferred to the third and fourth generations (Exod. 20:5; 34:7). The spiritual leadership of a family lies with the responsibility of the father, grandfathers, and the elders to teach their sons the commandments and instructions of the Word.
