1 T HE A POSTOLIC C OMMISSION : M ISSION I MPOSSIBLE ? "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. M ATTHEW 28:19,20 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." M ARK 16:15 "Mission: Impossible" was a popular espionage series originally broadcast on network television from 1966 to 1973 and recently turned into a blockbuster movie. Each week, the Impossible Missions Force (IMF), a small group of highly trained men and women, was sent on a seemingly impossible mission. Each episode concluded, however, with the mission accomplished despite overwhelming odds. What kept viewers riveted to the program was the ability of the team to encounter and overcome each challenge that stood in the way of completing the mission. This chapter opens with what is commonly referred to as the Great Commission. It was given to a small group of men, chosen by the Lord, whom He called apostles.
