persecution and opposition. Strengthening the Gates

And Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate, and at the corner buttress of the wall; then he fortified them (2 Chron. 26:9). Apostles are gatekeepers, guarding the points of entry into a city. Whoever controls the gates will control entry into and exit from the city. Uzziah built towers on the gates in order to position soldiers and watchmen to guard and protect the gates of Jerusalem. Apostles not only attack the enemy, but they strengthen the Church's gates in defense against attack. Our gates must be fortified against attack from Satan. Building and Digging Also he built towers in the desert. He dug many wells, for he had much livestock, both in the lowlands and in the plains; he also had farmers and vinedressers in the mountains and in Carmel, for he loved the soil (2 Chron. 26:10). Apostles have the ability to build in desert places. Desert places represent dry places in the Spirit. There are many cities and nations that are spiritually dry; there is no flow of the Spirit. There is a lack of refreshing teaching and preaching. Uzziah dug many wells. This is a strength of apostolic ministry: the ability to dig wells in dry places. A well is not haphazardly dug. It takes skill to know where and how to dig a well. Churches established through apostolic ministry will become wells in dry places. They will be points of refreshing in the midst of dry places of religion and tradition. Note that Uzziah had large herds; he also had the ability to
