committed to them. They are sent by the Lord, not man. This may cause them to fall out of favor with some, but they must be faithful to the One who sent them. Zechariah's Vision Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were four horns. And I said to the angel who talked with me, "What are these?" So he answered me, "These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem." Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen [carpenters]. And I said, "What are these coming to do?" So he said, "These are the horns that scattered Judah, so that no one could lift up his head; but the craftsmen are coming to terrify them, to cast out the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it" (Zech. 1:18-21). In this vision, Zechariah saw four horns, which represented the four powers that had scattered Israel. The horn is a symbol of power, strength and might. There are powers in every region whose purpose is to scatter people and prevent them from gathering. I have talked to countless pastors who are frustrated because they cannot seem to gather together a strong group of believers. Many see their churches grow to a certain size and then split or diminish because of something that occurs. This could be strife, division, rebellion or any number of things that come against the church to scatter the flock. Until these horns are dealt with, the people will remain scattered and not be able to lift up their heads. This represents oppression and bondage. There are multitudes of people in despair politically, economically and spiritually. They cannot lift themselves out of their situations because these horns are in place. The powers of darkness are determined to keep the multitudes in this condition. The prophet then sees four craftsmen, or carpenters. These carpenters come to fray the horns.
