guides, hypnosis, etc. He also held Psychic seminars. Cagliostro was an occultist and Mason who used a symbol with a snake. His symbol can be explained as thus: “Because of his knowledge of alchemical mysteries, his familiarity with Hermetism and his skill in transmutation, Cagliostro was accorded new honors. It was at this time that a scholar of Nuremberg turned over to him a symbol which he was to adopt as his emblem and engrave on his seal in recognition of the powers that had been conferred on him. The symbol represented a serpent reared on its tail, swallowing an apple as an arrow pierced him through and through while blood gushed from the wound. The arrow was pointed downward, the serpent stretching its jaws upward—the symbol and hallmark of the Rosicrucians. The serpent is thus seen eating the fruit of knowledge, but then dying of it. Cagliostro informs us that he found the esoteric tracing of this symbol in the great manuscript of the ‘Unknown Superiors’ of Germany. He also relates that a dignitary of Freemasonry who saw it on his seal, bowed before him reverently. In Nuremberg, another Master, noticing this mark of respect, offered him in homage a ring set with a beautiful diamond.”

Another logo that utilizes the snake is the Himalayan Institute. Notice that the circle is actually a snake biting its tail.
