Leland P. Stewart was the founder of Unity-and-Diversity World Council. On May 10, 1998 he spoke at the Taurus Wesak Festival (sponsored by the Los Angeles InterGroup). Before mentioning some of Stewart’s remarks, I think it is necessary to explain what the Wesak Festival is. The Group for Creative Meditation tells us: “Held in the solar month of Taurus at the full moon of May, this Festival HONORS THE BUDDHA, THE LORD OF LIGHT, Messenger of the East. It is this great living Avatar Who brings the ‘Light of Illumination’ from ‘the centre where the Will of God is known’ closer to humanity.
