As also mentioned, the Theosophical Society’s newsletter was called Lucifer. One person who had material printed in this magazine was Eliphas Levi, the individual who drew Baphomet. He stated: “The intellectual LUCIFER IS THE SPIRIT OF INTELLIGENCE AND LOVE; it is the paraclete, it is the Holy Spirit....” The word “paraclete” means “advocate” or an “intercessor.” St. John penned: “If any man sin, we have an advocate [paraclete] with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (I John 2:1). Christ is our mediator: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (I Timothy 2:5).
