Notice that “quintessence” was mentioned twice. Mason, occultist, and the artist of the Baphomet drawing, Eliphas Levi, comments: “The guiding star is that same blazing star which is a symbol in all initiations. For alchemists it is the sign of the QUINTESSENCE, for magicians the great arcanum, for Kabbalists the sacred PENTAGRAM.”
Third, the Cabala was mentioned. Briefly, the Cabala: “assumes the magical power of words, signs, and numbers, and the possibility through the knowledge of this power to foresee and influence future events. It recognized the power of amulets, magic formulae, conjurations of spirits and other supernatural agencies.” In an article entitled “Jung and the Qabalah,” we are told: “The Qabalah is one of the most ancient Western philosophical systems. IT FORMS MUCH OF THE INNER FOUNDATIONS UPON WHICH ASTROLOGY, TAROT, ALCHEMY, NUMEROLOGY, MYTHOLOGY AND CEREMONIAL MAGIC ARE BASED.” The book, Magical Arts, claims: “Like most of the occult systems within the European tradition of high magic, the CABALA INCLUDED SPELLS designed to induce an unseen population of spirits to carry out the magician’s wishes.” In fact, in the Dictionary of Mysticism, we are told that the CABALA “IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT IN MOST SCHOOLS OF OCCULTISM.” So, now you should have a little better idea about the extensive occultism
