The Mystery of the Waters
It means to relinquish one's rights. People who are "set in their ways" (unbending and unyielding) are being controlled by Leviathan, who refused to yield. Hardness of Heart His heart is as firm as a stone: yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. (Job 41:24) Next, the Lord shows us Leviathan's heart. It is hard as a rock. This is a reference to hardness of heart. Hardness of heart causes divorce and marital problems (Matthew 19:8); unbelief and doubt (Mark 16:14); lack of spiritual perception, spiritual dullness, lack of wisdom and understanding, forgetfulness (Mark 8:17-18); lack of repentance and godly sorrow (Romans 2:5); backsliding and departing from God (Hebrews 3:12). These are all results of Leviathan's influence. Many believers suffer from the condition of hardness of heart just as the disciples did. Pharaoh, who is also referred to as "the great dragon", hardened his heart and was destroyed in the Red Sea. Hardness of heart prevents us from walking in the fullness of God's blessings. Leviathan hinders spiritual growth. Sleepiness while trying to pray, study the Word, or even while sitting in a service are manifestations of the spirit. People who have problems praying or understanding the Word of God are often controlled by Leviathan. An inability to remember Scriptures or recall the Word have also been traced to Leviathan. Arguing and fighting in marriages, causing separation and divorce, are also the work of Leviathan. When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves. (Job 41:25)
