EXEMPLI GRATIA (E.G.) [L. exemplum / a sample, example + gratia / a favor, kindness] For example, used generally in the abbreviated form; e.g., Example: “We stock a variety of books; e.g., mysteries, travel books, biographies, etc.” EXEMPT [L. exemptus , from eximo, eximire / to take out, take away.
