Dangerous debts will be incurred by gambling, and much money will be wasted that could have been invested for retirement. Imagine the reward a person could store up for eternity had they spent some of that money for the work of the Kingdom of God. Instead, the money was thrown into a bottomless pit, just to take a chance on winning that which a person cannot resist in order to please the flesh. Freedom from these addictions requires rewiring of the thought process of the brain and a change of bad patterns of habit. A person needs spiritual help, psychological help, and the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome serious addictions. 5. Scams and Counterfeits Counterfeits have always been a lucrative way for unscrupulous individuals to make money from innocent victims. Look at how money has been counterfeited over the years. People have even counterfeited pennies. For example, there is a penny in which only twelve were made. It was a steel penny that was accidently minted with copper, and they are rare and valuable. It is astonishing that someone would counterfeit a penny, hoping it would sell for thousands of dollars. There is also a rare, three-legged buffalo nickel, minted in the 1930’s. Counterfeiters learned to take an ordinary buffalo nickel and file off the a leg to pass it off as a genuine three legged buffalo, thus making money. Only an expert can see the difference. I have collected sports cards for years, and sometimes the most expensive cards sold on the Internet are counterfeit. Old oil paintings that look authentic can actually be reproductions. Then there are scams. A scam is a fraudulent business scheme designed to make a quick profit. Scams hit 30.2 million adults in the United States, and many of them originate in other countries. This problem is perhaps the saddest for Christians, as many good, honest believers have been invited to participate in a new form of investment that is guaranteed to make them millionaires. Those offering the opportunity often use embellished stories or testimonials from those participating in the plan, in order to gain the trust of others to reel them in. Often Scriptures are quoted, “The wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just,” to confirm from the Bible that certainly this investment is the one that God Himself predicted! Christians become easy targets for what is called “affinity fraud,” as investment scams prey upon religious groups and communities, including ethnic
