Breaking the Spirit of Poverty and Lack
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. P ROV . 6:10-11 (NKJV) Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, but he who regards a rebuke will be honored. P ROV . 13:18 Lack will come to those who are too lazy to work for a living, or who spend their time just wasting time. The only way of breaking a lazy cycle is to enter a work cycle where your motivation is to do a job, complete it, and be rewarded for your success. 3. Sin and Habits of the Flesh This topic was discussed briefly in another section of the book, but it is worth repeating because these things bring poverty to a person’s life. Alcohol and drugs ruin lives and bring poverty, and anybody who wants to break the spirit of lack in life must give up these and other wasteful spending habits. The Bible tells us: He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich. P ROV . 21:17 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags. P ROVERBS 23:21 There is a reason why every major alcoholic beverage store has one big word —SPIRITS—on the advertising sign. These words are not intended to mean this, but alcohol consumption and addiction can and will open doors to demonic activity and spirits, which can only be broken when the addiction is broken. If you live or have lived in a rural community, you know that most small towns have a “town drunk.” This is the person who is never seen sober, who usually cannot keep a job, and who goes from place to place seeking a handout to purchase liquor. Thankfully, God has delivered many individuals from the grip of alcohol addiction. However, American society has made it acceptable to drink as much as you can as often as you can. One of four people has an addictive nature, and they will become addicted to something—drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling and so forth.
