Breaking the Fear of Financial Provision for the End Time

many people have gotten themselves in a financial bind when they tried to help family members by loaning them money. Parents have lost retirement money when they loaned it to a child who never paid it back. Proverbs 22:26-27 tells us not to enter into an agreement with somebody where we are required to put up security or collateral for a loan, because if you cannot pay it back, the lender will take your property in exchange. Proverbs 17:18 even tells us that if we put up security or collateral for a friend, we are devoid of understanding and sense. This is mentioned yet again at the beginning of Proverbs chapter 6, where the writer says that pledging to guarantee another person’s debts is a snare that makes your own security subject to seizure. If you have a friend or family member who is irresponsible and cannot handle finances, it is wise to help them work out a plan to get out of debt and learn to handle money wisely. But it is unwise to use your own money or collateral to pay the debt for them. S EVEN T HINGS T HAT W ILL H ALT Y OUR P ROGRESS The promises of provision in Scripture, as well as all New Covenant promises, manifest in the life of a believer through their individual faith and obedience. But there is a misconception that, if a person reads Scripture and believes it, the promises will automatically work—with or without any action or obedience on their part. That is not the case. I have discovered that, at times, it is our own actions that cause roadblocks to blessings. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy when it comes to succeeding at our endeavors. Here are seven problems that will stop your progress, hinder your success, and block your financial freedom. 1. Media, Games, And Internet Addiction Growing up, our entertainment was playing in the yard until dark and watching cartoons on Saturday mornings. Today, with home computers, enormous flat screen televisions, iPads that you can easily carry wherever you go, iPods, smartphones, Facebook, downloads, Internet that allows access to unlimited information and so on, it is possible to waste hours every day. People spend hours on social networking alone. They post comments and tweet to their followers if they so much as go to the mall or drink a cup of coffee. It is possible to look all around you during a church service and see people replying to texts on
