The signs and sounds stuck in your head The third possible reason for the type of dream is related to what a person may see or hear prior to going to bed. Years ago in Ohio, I was concluding a message when a man jumped to his feet shouting, “My boy…please help my boy; something is wrong with him!” I asked the church to stretch their hand toward the lad, who appeared to be having a seizure. We began to pray, and I did as Christ would—I began rebuking the spirit that was attacking the eleven-year-old. Immediately the shaking stopped and his eyes were back to normal. The father was weeping and the church rejoicing. Afterward I asked the father if his son was an epileptic, and he responded, “No.” He then said, “This has never happened before.” I was in shock and could not understand why this had happened to the lad. Then the father confessed, “I allowed him to watch the movie The Exorcist on a movie channel. Do you think this opened a door?” My jaw dropped, and I just stared at him for a moment. I knew the Bible told of a young child that a spirit had controlled, often throwing him into the water and fire to destroy him (Mark 9:20– 23). I also recalled where the father informed Christ that a spirit had come upon his son from the time he had been a child (v. 21).
