GOD GIVES YOU THE DESIRES
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
—P SALM 37:4
This word delight in Hebrew can allude to being pliable, or to enjoying something. When we begin to enjoy our relationship with God, He will give us the desires of our hearts. There are two ways this passage can be understood. The primary meaning is the word desires , which in Hebrew simply means “the request or the petition of our hearts.” The simple meaning is that our prayers and petitions will be answered. A second, implied meaning is that God gives us our desires—in the manner of what we feel and sense in our heart and spirit was put there by the Lord. In 1980, when I was ministering in a fourweek revival in Northport, Alabama, I saw a beautiful seventeen-year-old girl named Pam standing in a group of about eighty youth who were worshiping as the choir was singing. I can still see her in my mind. I heard an inner voice say, “That is the girl you will marry.” At first I tried to ignore the voice, as this was in the middle of a church service! However, the voice repeated the words twice. At that very moment she was placed in my heart —and I hadn’t taken her on the first date!
