GOD HAS THE PROVISION Our generation is very provision oriented. Often believers will accept any type of promise or blessing, try any type of prosperity package, and seek out someone who has an alleged anointing to pray finances into their lives. A need being met is for the present, but the meaning of provision is to provide, prepare, or supply something for future needs. Men and women express their concerns about having the proper provisions for the future. When God tested Abraham on Mount Moriah, the loving father carried the knife for the sacrifice and the fire for the altar, and Isaac carried the wood to the top of the mountain (Gen. 22:5–6). Once they reached the top of the mountain, Abraham built the altar. Just before Abraham pierced his son with a dagger, the angel of the Lord stopped the process and pointed to a ram that was caught in a thicket by its horns (vv. 9–13). This ram would become the provision for Abraham and would become a picture of the future sacrifice of a lamb that would one day become the final offering for all mankind upon that same mountain (vv. 7–8). Notice in the narrative that this ram was caught in a thicket by the horns. This is interesting, as at this time Abraham was more than 135 years of age, based upon the age of Sarah at her death in Genesis 23:1–2. It would be difficult for such an old man to wrestle with a ram if that ram was free and not caught in the thicket. In fact, any ram could have outrun Abraham, had he attempted to chase it down.
