4. God speaks today using the vocal gifts of the Spirit. I realize that there will be some reading this section who will disagree with my comments, based upon your church tradition, denominational persuasion, and personal experiences. However, when the Holy Spirit was given as a gift to the body of Christ (Acts 2:38–39), He brought with Him nine fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22–23) and nine gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12:7–10). I find it interesting that ministers believe in the Holy Spirit as a person but teach that the miraculous gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12 have somehow ceased in our time. Yet they still believe and teach that all nine fruit of the Spirit are for our time! Paul wrote that the “gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Rom. 11:29). Once God has issued a gift for the body of Christ, He will not withdraw that gift. We are also informed that we should “come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 1:7). These verses indicate that the gifts (Greek, charisma/charismata ) are given and will continue until the return of Christ—despite what is being taught in some circles of unbelief. The three main vocal gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 are different kinds of tongues , interpretation of tongues , and prophecy . I have personally witnessed my precious father, Fred Stone, on numerous occasions as he began praying the prayer language of the Spirit and was understood by a person from another nation who spoke the same tongue my father was
