I f you were to interview the average church attendee in North America and ask, “How does God speak to His people today?” a vast majority would reply that He no longer speaks to us except through Scripture. Of course, God’s ultimate and complete revelation is revealed to mankind through the sixty six books of the Bible. The Holy Scripture is God’s final instruction for mankind and a revelation of His redemptive covenant through Christ. However, the reason so many Christians believe God no longer speaks to His people is because they perceive the word speak as being “audible words” coming from out of the atmosphere instead of God speaking to us through our own inner spirit. Since most believers have never heard an audible, deep, booming voice piercing the atmosphere, they assume God is silent—except through His written Word! Unfortunately, many Christians deny the possibility of God speaking to a person because they are continually bombarded from the pulpit with statements like: “God does not speak today.” “God spoke only to the original apostles.” Or, “We do not need God to speak since we have His Word.” A minister who denied that God speaks to anyone today was asked, “If God does not speak today, then how can any sinner be saved, since they must be convicted of their sin by the Holy Spirit?” Conviction is more than mentally agreeing with a sermon from a pulpit. It is a deep feeling of remorse that leads to repentance. Who brought that feeling? What was that still, small voice that said, “This message is for you. Believe this Word”? That was the voice of the Holy Spirit! No man can
