Anna was the first female prophetess to see the infant Christ, as Simeon the rabbi announced that Jesus was the anticipated Jewish Messiah (Luke 2:36–38). Mary was receptive to the angel who announced that she, as a virgin, would conceive a child (Luke 1:30–35), and Elizabeth, the aged, barren wife of a priest, became pregnant through a supernatural visitation (vv. 1–25).
