As believers mature in the Word and in their spiritual walk, they will discover that God begins to direct them inwardly. Then the Almighty will release words of wisdom and knowledge, and eventually He will permit insight to be revealed through dreams and visions. You must exercise discernment, however, when any individual begins to relate a dream in which you were in the dream. You should have knowledge of that person’s spiritual life, his or her integrity in the Word, and if past dreams have had true meanings and have come to pass. Otherwise, some may either ignorantly or willingly manipulate a person’s plans or decisions by a dream that is misinterpreted. In the late 1980s I was hosting a tour to Israel with more than two hundred fifty believers joining me. A woman who was not going on the trip was washing dishes when suddenly she dropped a glass, and it broke. She said that suddenly she had a vision in her mind and heard a voice say, “Those going to Israel will come back broken like this glass!” She immediately called her friends and encouraged them to cancel their trip or they would return broken or injured. People planning to travel on the tour began calling me, concerned for their safety. That is when I shared with them that years ago the Lord gave me a solid, faith-building word about any time I would travel to the Holy Land, saying, “The Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9). Since receiving that word in 1986, I have never hesitated to make the journey each year. At that time, some fearful travelers canceled and others went. We returned, and no one was hurt or injured.
