that they are in reality serving God. Through their professed ac ceptance of general orders they assume they are loyal to God, whereas, by leading them to formulate their own details, Satan ensures that they are not. There are many other orders that are not given to every child of God in every age, but nonetheless can be defined as “general” in that they do not contain specific orders to any specific individ ual or group. Such general orders include for example the one given to Israel to enter Canaan. This order was given to all of Is rael as explained by Moses when he quoted the Lord’s words: “See I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord promised to your fathers....” Deuteronomy 1:8 margin. Moses was referring to the general promise given to Abram when he first left Ur (see Genesis 12:1, 5, 7). But the spe cific orders had yet to be given to a generation who were not even born during the lifetime of Abraham. As we saw, God provides us with general plans about the fu ture, such as His order to enter the heavenly Canaan, just as He gave Israel His plan for them to enter the earthly Canaan in the days of Moses. At that time He did not give them the specific in structions as to how they would enter it. In His wisdom He did not burden them with the worries of tomorrow. They had enough specific orders to obey in following the cloud, gathering manna and so on.
