Our Need for the Sabbath
Why the Seventh Day? T he principles of Sabbath rest are not limited to one day in seven, but are to be the Christian’s way of life continuously, all week long. There is not a moment when we can turn safely or righteously to any other procedure. Why, then, should we keep just one day in seven as a special day of rest as the Lord has specified in Exodus 20? “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the L ORD your God. In it you shall do no work ....” Exodus 20:8–10 (NKJV). Does not the faithful recognition of the truth and careful co operation with God as the Source, Christ as the Connector, and ourselves as receivers, mean that we are keeping the Sabbath every day of the week? Surely then there is no need for one spe cial day of Sabbath-keeping? There are church organizations whose members argue that they operate within the Sabbath principles—as they under stand them—every day of the week, and so they see no need to observe the seventh day.
